Acupuncture for Digestion, Bloating & Bowel Support
Holistic acupuncture and Chinese medicine support in Wollongong for digestion, bloating and bowel support
Acupuncture for digestion & gut health
Digestive complaints are incredibly common and can have a significant impact on day-to-day life. Symptoms such as bloating, reflux, abdominal discomfort, constipation, diarrhoea, food sensitivities, and irregular bowel habits can affect not only physical health, but also energy, mood, confidence, and overall wellbeing.
Many people are told their tests are normal, yet continue to experience ongoing digestive symptoms. Others may have been diagnosed with conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and are looking for additional support to help manage their symptoms.
At our clinic, I take an integrative approach to digestive health, combining both Western and Chinese medicine perspectives. Alongside your digestive symptoms, I consider factors such as diet, stress levels, sleep, energy, menstrual health, pulse, and tongue to gain a complete picture of your health.
Acupuncture and Chinese medicine aim to support healthy digestive function, regulate bowel habits, reduce bloating, and address the underlying factors contributing to your symptoms. Treatment is always tailored to your individual presentation and health goals.

Chinese Medicine View
In Chinese medicine, the digestive system is primarily governed by the Spleen and Stomach. Together, these organs are responsible for transforming food and drink into the Qi and Blood that nourish the entire body.
When digestion is functioning well, energy is strong, bowel motions are regular, and nutrients are effectively absorbed. When digestion becomes impaired, symptoms such as bloating, fatigue, loose stools, constipation, reflux, and abdominal discomfort may develop.
Stress can also have a significant impact on digestion. In Chinese medicine, the Liver is responsible for ensuring the smooth flow of Qi throughout the body. During times of stress, this flow may become disrupted, affecting digestive function and contributing to symptoms such as bloating, abdominal tension, altered bowel habits, and IBS-like symptoms.
Treatment focuses on identifying and addressing the individual's underlying pattern of imbalance through acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and other modalities. How acupuncture works
Gut Motility
Acupuncture influences gut motility and bowel function to support constipation and diarrhoea
Nervous System Regulation
Activate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) bringing more blood flow to digestive organs.
Improves circulation
Acupuncture supports healthy blood flow to the digestive system to reduce pain and bloating.
Reducing Inflammation
Acupuncture has anti-inflammatory effects which can be useful in relieving digestive symptoms.
